“The Role of Parents in Helping their Children to Read”
Parents are their child’s first and most important teacher.
– Jaclyn M. Bower
“When a child doesn’t turn out right, the first question people ask is: who is the parent? It is usually the joy of parents to see their children doing well not only at school, but in the society. I attended a prize giving ceremony in my children’s school where prizes were given to the pupils for the best behaved in class, best in writing, best in art, most outstanding project, overall best pupil in class, and so on. Parents and other guests present were clapping and cheering the children up as they were called upon to receive their awards. Funny enough, I could see from where I was sitting that some parents were not particularly impressed by their children’s performance. They actually expected more but whose fault is it? There are children who are slow learners but they later pick up in life. In fact, they do better in most cases when they pickup. But much as the teachers instruct the kids at school, the parents should also assist, and ensure that their children do their homework, rather than allow them to glue their eyes on the TV watching cartoons all day long.”
