I Have Got The Power (Part 3)
Friends, greetings in Jesus Name! Today we shall continue with the series we began some weeks ago titled, “I Have Got The Power”. Last week we began looking at the ingredients we need to effectively work and maintain a lifestyle of exercising power and authority in Christ Jesus. First, we looked at consecration. And we learned that consecration means sacred, to make holy or to dedicate to a higher purpose. As noted last week, this is a quality Daniel and friends exhibited right from the beginning in Babylon. And immediately, God began to honour and exalt them. In fact, He made them ten times wiser than all the astrologers and magicians in the whole realm of Babylon (Daniel 1). The same power of consecration made a difference in the life of Joseph in Egypt. His consecration to God, made him to refuse the offer of Potiphar’s wife to lie with her (Genesis 39:9). Joseph made God his topmost priority, and placed every other thing beneath him that is contrary to the will of God for his life. In so doing, he became so powerful in Egypt, such that all Egyptians were at his command (Genesis 41:38-44). Now, let’s look at other qualities we need to exercise God’s power in our lives. And these include: knowing the power of God in you, believing in the power of God in you, walking in obedience to God’s word, operating by the spirit, and keying into the great commission by spreading the gospel.
Now, let’s examine each of them one after the other, and see how far we can go today. As believers in Christ Jesus, there is no question whether we have the power of God resident in us. “For as many as received him, to them he gave POWER to become the sons and daughters of God” (John 1:12). The question is: Are you aware of what you carry? Do you have a full understanding of the potency of power resident within you as a believer? Listen, the worst thing that can happen to any man is to be in a position where he begs for what he already has. You see, ignorance is a disease. A preacher once said that, “There is no mountain anywhere; every man’s mountain is his ignorance. Once ignorance is cleared from your life, everything that seems like a mountain crumbles and levels to the ground. A lot of believers in Christ just keep running about seeking for power which they already have for their breakthrough. “Then Jesus called his twelve disciples together, and gave them power and authority over all devils, and to cure diseases” (Luke 9:1). This same power and authority apply to you and me today. “So shall my word be that goes forth out of my mouth”, says the Lord (Isaiah 55:11). God cannot lie (Num. 23:19). He is one with His word (Psalm 138:2). One antidote that God gave man against ignorance is His word. “For my people are destroyed for lack of knowledge” (Hosea 4:6). Jesus said to the Jews that believed in Him, “If you continue in my word, then are you my disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall set you free” (John 8:31-32).
The third ingredient you need to embrace is to, believe in the power of God in your life. Do you believe you carry power? Do you believe in what that power can do? Really, this is where faith comes in. Some believers know about the power of God, and they know they carry that power by virtue of being God’s children. “For as He is, so are we in this world” (1 John 4:17). But unfortunately, many do not work in that power because they lack faith to exercise that power. They would rather go about seeking for others with more faith than they, to do what ordinarily they should have done for themselves. Unfortunately, due to their unbelief, they render themselves powerless when they should have been powerful. A typical example is the twelve spies Moses sent to search out the land that God promised to give to the children of Israel. Two out of the twelve spies, brought back good report, and the rest – having seen and experienced the power of God already – came back with evil reports to the children of Israel (Numbers 13). We all know the consequences of their action (Num. 14:1-24). Beloved, we are in the last days. You cannot afford to live in ignorance, work in unbelief, and still operate in God’s power. Ignorance is not an excuse; and living in unbelief or doubt keeps you trapped in prison with the prison key in your pocket. In such case, only you can free and release yourself. I will end here today, and we shall examine the rest of the ingredients we need to work in God’s power by next week. Till then, have a fantastic week. With love, Elvis!
