Being the Light and Salt of the Earth
Friends, greetings in Jesus Name! Today, I will be sharing with you on what I title, “Being the Light and Salt of the Earth”. Apostle Paul declared in Philippians 2:15, “That you may become blameless and harmless, children of God without fault in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world.” Beloved, you are created to shine as light to your world. “For God is light, and in Him is no darkness at all” (1 John 1:5); and “As He is, so are we in this world” (1 John 4:17). God so fashioned and created you in such a way that not even darkness can stop you from shinning as stars. “Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the East came to Jerusalem, saying, where is He who has been born King of the Jews? For we have seen His “star” in the East and have come to worship Him” (Matt.2:1-2). Like Jesus, you are a born “star” created to shine. Yes, not any King Herod or devil can stop what God has ordained concerning your life. As a child of God, you have been made to become a wonder and amazement to your generation (Acts 3:10). But you must shine by manifesting the light of God to the world. Hallelujah! Jesus said, “You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven” (Matt.5:14-16). The whole world lies in thick darkness as we speak. The only antidote to darkness is light. And you are the light. Remember, you don’t conquer darkness with darkness. Light conquers darkness. “For the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness comprehended it not” (John 1:5). Why? It is only light that has the capacity to humble darkness. Apostle Paul declares, “Have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose them. For it is shameful even to speak of those things which are done by them in secret. But all things that are exposed are made manifest by the light, for whatever makes manifest is light” (Ephesians 5:11-13). Now, Jesus said, “You are the salt of the earth” (Matt.5:13). Wow! Not only are you the light to give direction, but also the salt to bring sweetness and preservation to the world. Can you imagine being served a sumptuous meal that lacks salt in it. In fact, no matter how well a meal is cooked, if there is no salt in it, it is a disaster. No one can stand a tasteless food. In the same vein, the world is tasteless without you. The bible makes it clear that if you are not playing your role as the salt of the world, men will trample upon you. Why? Because you are good for nothing (Matt.5:13). Listen, you become a people magnet – a point of attraction – when you are light and salt to them. By default, people embrace problem solvers – solution providers – those who can point the way to them, and bring sweetness & joy to their lives. No one celebrate a failure or get attracted to problem creators. It is those who make things happen that people run to. As believers in Christ Jesus, if the world is not running towards us to see our God, then we have to re-evaluate the light we proclaim to carry. “For thus says the LORD of hosts: In those days ten men from every language of the nations shall grasp the sleeve of a Jewish man, saying, let us go with you, for we have heard that God is with you” (Zechariah 8:23). Jesus said, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life” (John 8:12). Because God is light (1 John 1:5), and in his light we see light (Ps.36:9), then we become more like him – who is light – when we begin to do things that are pleasing in his sight. Therefore, “Arise, shine; for your light is come, and the glory of the LORD is risen upon you” (Isai.60:1). Have a Fantastic Week. With love, Elvis!
