Rejoice For Your Name Is Written
Friends, greetings in Jesus Name. Today, I will be sharing with you on what I title, “Rejoice For Your Name Is Written”. There is an aspect of planning that no one likes to plan for. You know what it is? Death! No one wants to die, talkless of planning for it. If Jesus tarries, whether you like it or not, you will definitely die and exit the earth. You and I can’t escape it. It’s an inevitable event that must occur one day, but the day we don’t know. Thus, it becomes critical that no matter how much we hate or dread hearing that word “death”, we should pay attention to it, not with fear, but with a sense of reflection, that there’s life after death. Our journey in life does not end here. The physical body we have is our temporary abode hear on earth. Yes, our body is the earth suit or jacket that covers our spirit that lives for ever more. Hallelujah! Therefore, for this reason death shouldn’t scare us, because we are eternal beings whose sojourn on earth is temporal. As believers, what should be paramount in our hearts should be life after death. Remember, there are two eternal destinations after death – heaven or hell – and each individual living on the face of the earth has an eternal address at any of these destinations.
In the book of Luke 10, Jesus appointed seventy disciples and sent them two by two to embark on a critical mission to go preach and spread the gospel of the kingdom to the city and places around them. Then they returned with great joy, telling Jesus how the demons were subject to them in his name, and they related to him great miracles and wonders that were performed by his name. And Jesus replied them saying, “Do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rather rejoice because your names are written in heaven” (Luke 10:20). As believers in Christ, there are two major things we must be concerned about in our pilgrimage here on earth. These two things must be our primary focus; and they are: (1) The kind of legacy we will leave behind; (2) Our eternal destination. The question is: How would you like to end here on earth, and where would you spend your eternity – heaven or hell? Really, it is a question only you and I can answer. Our eternal destination can only be by our choice. No one, not even the devil no matter the amount of temptations he throws at you, will be held responsible for your eternal destination. Yes, it’s that serious!
As I write this devotion, my mum has gone to be with the Lord. It’s a painful exit and unexpected. She lived to a full old age, but we never expected her to leave anytime soon. She didn’t show any sign, still looking younger than her age and bubbling with life. But it pleased the Lord to take her home. My greatest joy is that she made peace with the Lord. Are you born again? The exercise of being born again is something you cannot do after death. It’s only relevant here on earth while you still have the opportunity to say Jesus come into my heart, and have full access and control over my life. Whether you like it or not, no one will remain here on earth forever. Even if you live over 100 years, you will still die some day. What matters is where you go afterwards, and the legacy you leave behind. Revelation 14:13 says, “And I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Write, Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labours; and their works do follow them.”
Thinking about my mother, I believe heaven cheered her up when she arrived. Mama stood “Gidi Gba” like an Iroko tree for her children. She made huge sacrifices, worked tirelessly, and sold all she had to see us through our education, and many things in life. She left a huge legacy, not only for her children, but for the community where she lived. She was a mother to many. Sometimes, I wonder if I am sharing my mum with some strangers. Why? She has so many adopted children outside her own who call her mother. She made lasting impact in the lives of many in my community. She held no grudges nor hatred against anyone. She came to give and she gave, until she gave all that she had. She lived loving, sharing, and wiping away the tears of others. And above all, she committed herself to a life of prayer and to the things of God. Yes, that was my mother. Now, she has exit the stage. If Jesus tarries, we shall all exit one day. My prayer for you and I, is that our name shall be written in the book of life in Jesus Mighty Name. Have a fantastic week. With love, Elvis!
