Enquiring from God (Contd.)

Friends, greeting in Jesus Name! Today we will be looking at the concluding part of the series we began last week, “Enquiring from God”. We learnt from last week’s message that answers to our life problems becomes easy when we get God involved. Really, spiritual problems cannot be handled by our physical senses. It can only take being in the realm of the spirit to deal effectively on spiritual matters. Despite the daunting challenges that comes our way, there is always a way out. The life of David is a case example we examined last week. It is worth noting that whenever David had a challenge or faced with trouble, he always ran to God for refuge. David said, “I will lift up my eyes to the hills – from whence comes my help? My help comes from the LORD, who made heaven and earth” (Psalm 121:1-2). He knew the source of his strength to be God. I think this should be a lesson to every one of us. Enquiring from God is not a kind of microwave prayer where you jump in and jump out from God’s presence. No! It means staying under God’s presence without any rush, laboring in prayer and fasting, and waiting patiently on the Lord to receive His directives concerning a matter. Like the scripture said, “But those who wait on the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint” (Isaiah 40:31).

As a foreign student in the University, I encountered a huge academic challenge on campus. In my first year, I was pursuing a degree in Computer Science & Economics. After my first year, I realized it wasn’t the career path I should be doing. So, I decided to switch over to marketing. But the challenge came on transferring from Science Faculty (where I was studying computer science) to Commerce Faculty (where I should do marketing). In commerce faculty, one major criteria in getting admitted into marketing is to have done Applied Maths 101. But since I had done Maths 101 in Science Faculty, as a rule I was qualified to be exempted and allowed to do Marketing. But unfortunately, the faculty officer in commerce faculty told me that I cannot be exempted even though I had done Maths 101 from Science Faculty. Therefore, he directed that I must register for Applied Maths 101 in Commerce faculty, and which means spending an extra year before I could be admitted to do marketing. Then I asked him why? He told me the faculty has changed the exemption for transferring students from other faculties. While leaving his office, I met a friend from the Netherlands, who was initially in Science Faculty, but left before me to do marketing. He told me he was exempted when he transferred to Commerce Faculty.

Upon hearing him, I said to myself: “Why Must the rule change when it is my turn”? So, I went back the second time to meet the faculty officer, but he chased me out of his office, warned me sternly to go register Applied Maths 101, and never return to his office. As I left his office, I started praying in the Spirit, and enquired of the Lord saying: “Lord, what would you have me do”. Then the Lord directed me to go to my residence and spend some time in prayers. After about an hour in God’s presence, He told me to go back to the Faculty Officer. Now I went back to his office for the third time. When I arrived at his office, I greeted him politely as though we had not met before. Fortunately, he didn’t recognize me again, because the Lord has clothed me with grace and favor. Then I explained my case to him. This time he was nice to me, and said: “No problem, you can be exempted”. Immediately, he took my papers from me and keyed my credentials into the system. You know what? I got admitted into Marketing Department in that instant.

Here comes the trouble. As I was about leaving his office, he removed his eye-glass, looked at me very well and said, “Were you not the guy I chased out earlier”. I said yes! He began to scream to the roof-top, to the extent that his uncontrolled voice attracted fellow colleagues and bystanders to see the drama going on. He said to them that he doesn’t know what I did to him. He narrated how he chased me out to go register for Applied Maths 101, and now he has wrongly admitted me against the faculty rule. While he was busy shouting, the Lord told me to keep quiet. After much discussions with his colleagues, they referred the case to the overall faculty head, who has the sole authority to deregister me from the system. Then I was booked to see the man the following day by 10am. The Lord told me to pray again before going to his office. So, when I got to the man’s office the following day, he looked at the case, and said to me: “You can go, you have been registered”. Hallelujah! Listen, the Lord has the power to overrule and overturn any case against you. Why? He rules in the affairs of Men; the heart of man in His hand; and He has the answers to all of our problems. So why wasting time trying to figure things out yourself? Turn your problems to God. Jesus said in Matthew 11:28, “Come unto Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” Right now, receive God’s rest in Jesus Name! Remember, “Commit your ways to the Lord, and He shall direct your PATH” (Proverbs 3:6). Have a fantastic week. With love, Elvis!
