Stay Where God Has Planted You (Contd)

Friends, greetings in Jesus Name! Last week we began a series titled, "Stay Where God Has Planted You". Really, staying where God has planted you is all about understanding and fulfilling your life purpose. In life you cannot design or formulate your own purpose. No! You can only discover it. Not discovering purpose is why many people are making wrong decisions in life. Today we see mass exodus of people relocating abroad as a panacea to alleviate their life challenges. As a matter of fact, we watch on TV many migrants, especially Africans, who get drowned in the Atlantic Ocean, all because they want to be in Europe in search for a better life. Presently, Canada has become the last bus stop for most citizens of the world. As usual, Nigerians are not left out. Like they say, “Naija No Dey Carry Last”. Really, I have no problem with people trooping out of the country if that is where the Lord is leading them to go. I know quite a number who had left by the leading of the Lord and they are prospering outside the country where they are. Last month I was in the US, and I heard the news that most Nigerians are fleeing to Canada via the US border. According to reports, thousands of Nigerians gain illegal entrance to Canada on weekly basis. This raised a concern by the Canadian government who began to make some investigations, in collaboration with the US Immigration department on the visa issuance process to Nigerians visiting the United States. Really, I have come to realize that irrespective of the challenges facing us as a nation today, there are those whose blessings are tied here in Nigeria. In fact, some people have no business traveling abroad if they can hear God correctly. Just following God's directives will make a huge difference by saving you some stress. Many have missed their destiny because of impatience. The fact that it's not working where you are now does not mean it won't work for you tomorrow.

One thing we must know about God is that He is not static in His dealings with us. He may plant you in a particular location, and some other time uproots you to another place. The most important thing is to know and follow his plans for your life. No two individuals have the same plan and purpose for their lives. This is important so you do not apply or copy what is working for others when it is not in sync with God plans for your life. In the book of Genesis 26, it was recorded that there was famine in the land. The famine was so grievous that Isaac had to make some moves – just like many people – are doing today. But the Lord appeared to him and said: “Do not go down to Egypt; live in the land of which I shall tell you. Dwell in this land, and I will be with you and bless you.” Indeed Isaac obeyed and the Lord prospered him so much. On the other hand, there are those God has called to be an ambassador for Him outside the shores of their country. For instance, the Lord said to Abram, “Get out of your country, from your family and from your father’s house, to a land that I will show you. I will make you a great nation; I will bless you and make your name great; and you shall be a blessing” (Genesis 12:1-2). Abraham obeyed and the Lord prospered him much. You see, the most important thing here is to hear and follow God’s instruction for your life. Today many are languishing in pains because their moves were not ordered by the Lord. When God says go they stay; when He says stay they go.

I remember years ago after my studies abroad at Wits University in Johannesburg. There were offers for jobs coming my way but somehow God had a different plan for me. While my mates were accepting their job offers, the Lord was prompting me to go back home to Nigeria. It was a tough decision to make, but I had to obey. Most of my friends couldn’t understand why I should be returning home. To them it was absurd because things weren't going well back home and more so, there were opportunities for me in South Africa. But I packed my things, sold the ones I could, and boarded a plane back to Nigeria. You know what? I made the wisest decision obeying God. I have no regret because God has been so faithful in my life. The worst thing anybody can do is to presume on God, especially as it relates to God's call and plan for their lives. I have come to realize that promotion does not come by running helter-skelter. Promotion comes by running into God's will and purpose for your life. You may have made some mistakes, and found yourself in an unpalatable situation due to a wrong move or decision taken. But I have good news for you. There is hope for you! I can assure you that the Lord can rewrite your story and restore your wasted years (Joel 2:25). Why? There is nothing impossible for God to handle (Luke 1:37). Just commit your ways to Him now, and He will direct your paths (Proverbs 3:5-6). I see you rejoicing! Have a fun-filled week. With love, Elvis!
